Day 70: Sunshine and Frozen Lakes

It was a dreary day when we woke up this morning. Lots of fog and low hanging clouds. But we headed down the open road optimistic that this would be a nice day and hopefully a nice drive. After all we were leaving what many consider human Ontario and heading into the Wilderness.

And it was beautiful! Although there was still a lot of snow! And lots of the lakes we drove by were still mostly if not completely frozen over. This is not what I had been expecting. I thought that spring was here! After our day in Niagara Falls I thought the warm weather had arrived. But I was wrong. Here along the waters of the Lake Superior it was still clearly early spring, with snow and cloudy weather!

The drive was very nice, although we didn't stop anywhere major we did see lots of beautiful waterfalls and a couple small towns. This was a road where there were not many humans but lots of wilderness! It was pretty awesome. We stopped in a small town, Marathon, to grab gas and lunch. There was really not too much there!

After lunch we continued our drive to Thunder Bay. At around 4 we stopped at a very nice overlook. The sun had come out and I sat basking in the sun looking out on the frozen lake. It was really pretty amazing. After about an hour we decided to keep going and ended up getting to Thunder Bay around 6 30.

We headed to Subway for dinner and then found a Walmart where we parked and it ready for another cozy night. Before you know it we will be sleeping in real beds again and no longer in our nice cozy car!
