Day 3:I love papasans!!

Day 3:

I love papasans! Seriously that was probably the best money we have spent on the road trip to date! Sleeping in the car was much comfier! And we also shifter some more things around so we had more room! That made a huge difference. I actually slept through the night!

Today we headed to the oldest town west of the Rockies! Astoria. Our first stop was the visitors centre where a nice lady gave us lots of helpful hints. Apparently Astoria is famous for the Goonies. We skipped all that though and headed back into Washington State over an enormous bridge that crossed the Columbia River. We poked around Cape Disappointment and then headed back across the bridge to the Wet Dog in Astoria. Joel and I shared fish and chips and a Hip Hop Burger. The fish and chips was exactly what was needed on a raining day like that! The Wet Dog was a very open restaurant with very friendly staff, I would love to go back there again! The bar that was western themed was just icing on the cake! And it was here that Joel and I discovered that Oregon has no state tax! What a big change from the 12% in BC!!

Felling full and refreshed we headed to Louis and Clark National Park and Fort Clatsop. We spent more than two hours looking through the information here as well as watching some very informative movies and seeing a replica of the fort that Lewis and Clark made when they made it this far west. The park rangers were once again very helpful and friendly ( I am starting to see a theme here) and helped us purchase out national parks annual pass. Guess Joel and I will be spending lots of time in National Parks!

From Lewis and Clark we headed down the coast to Lincoln. However we made an important pit stop at the Tilamook Cheese Factory. Where Joel I enjoyed a sticky bun ice cream with a sugar cone and a large supply of free cheese samples. Joel liked the chili pepper cheese , while I preferred the cheddar :)

After Tillamook we took a very rough Highway on the coast through torrential downpour. It was dark and very rainy, not the best combination! But we went slowly and eventually got to Lincoln.

Using a website we found that you could park for free in the Casino parking lot. So we headed to the Chinook Winds Casino to see if this was true.  When we got there we saw plenty of RV and decided to sleep there. We hopped out of the car and went to take a look at the casino. Although we got free hot water, bathrooms, and free pop, the overall atmosphere was a little too lethargic and too many people were smoking so we left. Back to the car where we watched a movie and had some dinner. Once again I cannot say enough how much I love that  papasan pillow!!!
